A message from our host council
The Public Sector Challenge returns to Yorkshire in just a matter of weeks, with over 600 participants taking on the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The first iteration of the challenge in 2022 saw teams from Brentwood Borough Council and Rochford District Council take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and we are delighted to return to Yorkshire bigger and better than ever before.
The Three Peaks, Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, form part of the Pennine range in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and represent an incredibly popular challenge location that boasts a tough incline and breathtaking views.
Along with a host of other local government partners, our host council North Yorkshire Council will be taking part in this year’s challenge with a team of over 20 participants, who have raised over £1,000 towards our wider fundraising total.
Speaking on the challenge, North Yorkshire Council’s leader, Cllr Carl Les, said:
“We are delighted to have the 2024 Public Sector Challenge returning to our great county, with participants once again taking on the peaks of the Yorkshire Dales National Park which attracts thousands of similarly enthusiastic visitors each year.
“I’m extremely proud of the North Yorkshire Council team who will be taking part in the challenge on the 6th September, as they will be undertaking a massive 24-mile round trip while raising money for an excellent cause – Cancer Research UK.
“To date, the Public Sector Challenge has raised over £93,000 that could be used for life-saving research up and down the country. I wish all participants the very best and I hope that they can take the time to appreciate the incredible views of the Yorkshire Dales. I look forward to hearing the stories from my fellow council colleagues.”
To respect the very special landscape of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. we urge our participants to read the Code of Conduct to ensure this area is kept special for everyone.
